The
Philippine American Association of Delaware (PAAD) is a non-profit organization
founded to advance the cultural, social, and economic well-being of
Filipinos in Delaware and surrounding states. It seeks to network Filipino-Americans
and those of other ethnicity to create a community that each member
can turn to for social and cultural enrichment and mutual economic help.
As a community of immigrants, PAAD seeks to assist in the assimilation
of its members into American society while preserving their Filipino
values of hard work, thrift, family unity, spirituality, and the strong
tradition of community self-help based on the bayanihan spirit. Its
programs include a summer athletic league that draws Filipino-American
teams and families from 4 states, a summer school for Filipino-American
children where they are taught elements of Filipino culture, history,
and language, seasonal social events such as picnics and parties for
fellowship, and outreach programs such as food for needy families and
celebrations at nursing homes during the holiday season. PAAD has been
serving the Filipino-American community of Delaware for more than 25
years.
